Above the counter

I don't know about anyone else but I HATE cluttered counter tops.  Awhile back I posted about some really fun things I found at Ikea that I thought would be perfect for above the sink and guess what.....

I went back and bought them and placed them above the sink and near the mixer and I'm going to go back and get one more bar and place over near the Keruig and toaster! They are wonderful.

Well.... I can't seem to find a before picture of that side of the kitchen but if I come across one later I'll add it.  But, here's the during and after pics!

Installing the brackets

Is it level?

YEAH!!!

It had to be moved up a couple of times.  This is the look I was given.

One side done! It's so nice having everything off of the counter.

This is drilling pose.

Second side finished

All together now!
The clean counter is awesome!!!
The whole project took maybe 30 minutes on a rainy Saturday afternoon and its made a huge difference.

Things you learn from a power outage...

1) Make sure you've made nice with the neighbor who has a whole house natural gas generator.  It will come in hand in keeping all the food in your deep freeze frozen! (Thank God I did not need to throw all of that away I may have cried!)

2) On that same subject after 2 days is it really worth keeping the fridge door closed and hope it stays cold even with ice?  I'm still contemplating this one so I guess nothing learned.

3) Make sure you have a non-chewing, peeing on the floor, biting puppy.  You may need to go to really nice friend's houses and it's important that puppy can come too but if he's mean I bet you don't get many nice friend requests.

4) Totally rock the wrinkled, yeah I only sorta match look.  Hey no power - no washer or dryer or iron - therefore no clean or ironed clothes!

5)Try to put off moving into a new house when the new house doesn't have power.  Or at least move in before 7:30 that night.  (Yep our new neighbors did this and they were running around trying to get things into the house and ended up staying in a hotel that night because they couldn't find anything in the dark)

6) Somewhere has power.  Utilize it to charge phones even if it's your car.  People want to check on you and make sure you are ok! Don't make them worry.

7) Suck it up and move on.  People lived without power for a really long time!  I thank God that I at least have power most of the time and can have frozen and cold food, fans, air conditioners, a washer, dryer, computer, etc.  It's hard for us but the break from being able to use the computer or wash clothes or vacuum the floor gave me an opportunity to sit out on my front porch, see some of our neighbors, read a book and work on the blanket I've been attempting to crochet for like 6 years!

Ikea Awesomeness

Yep... It's a word! At least now it is.

While on an Ikea adventure a little while back I came across these.
FINTORP Rail IKEA For a longer rail, connect two FINTORP rails together using only one bracket.*
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50201906/

It's a FINTORP rail system that you attach into the wall and hold all kinds of different things.  I've always seen them in silver but never in black! And the black is perfect for our kitchen (along with the fact that it has more options of add ons to it!)

So......... I'm finishing up the design for behind the sink in the kitchen because I need somewhere to hang the sponges and brushes and towels and odds and ends things that you keep at the kitchen sink off of the counter top (I hate crowded counter tops).  I think this will be perfect and even the hubs is on board with the idea!! YEAH!!

I promise to share a pic as soon as I get myself back to Ikea and I get it installed! I'm so excited about it!

* Image from this part http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50201906/ of the IKEA website. The rail and name is all their idea and none of my own.   The Sweds are much better designers than they are so I use their stuff!

New computer

Just got a new computer so I will put the pictures of the house on it soon and begin updating the posts!!!! So many things to share.  and so many more to wait for.
